  4. Press Space or click the play button to start speed reading.
  5. Words will highlight one by one at your chosen speed. Use arrow keys to adjust.

  • / — Skip to previous / next sentence
  • / — Increase / Decrease speed by 25 WPM
  • Esc — Stop and reset
  • Alt + S — Toggle speed reading from any tab
Read With Flow works on most web pages that contain readable text: news articles, blog posts, documentation, forums, and more. It uses smart content detection to extract the main text, filtering out navigation, ads, and sidebars. It does not work on PDFs, images, or pages that block extensions (like Chrome internal pages).
You can adjust speed in three ways:
  • Arrow keys: Press or to change speed by 25 WPM while reading.
  • Popup slider: Click the extension icon and drag the WPM slider (100–1,000 WPM).
  • Widget slider: Use the speed slider on the floating on-page widget.
Your preferred speed is automatically saved and used across all pages.
Read With Flow automatically pauses slightly longer at punctuation for a more natural reading rhythm:
  • Periods, question marks, exclamation marks: 2.5× normal pause
  • Commas, semicolons, colons: 1.6× normal pause
  • Dashes, parentheses: 1.3× normal pause
  • Long words (10+ characters): 1.2× normal pause

Troubleshooting

Common issues and quick fixes

Play button not appearing

Try refreshing the page. Some pages load content dynamically, and a refresh lets the extension re-detect the text.

Extension not loading

Make sure Read With Flow is enabled in chrome://extensions. Toggle it off and on if needed, then refresh the page.

No content detected

The page may not have enough readable text, or the content may be loaded inside iframes. Try a different article.

Keyboard shortcuts not working

Make sure the page is focused (click on it). Some pages override keyboard events. Also check that no other extension has conflicting shortcuts.
